Things have been very busy around the Fairways camps lately, with the fruition of our newest project, 'The Woodford Park Project'. We're really excited about our new challenge and have worked long and hard to gain this opportunity. This has pushed our staff team numbers over the seventy mark, but we're a close family, with energy, motivation and enthusiasm. We believe stongly in what we do, and have a shared objective to make lives better for people with learning disabilities.
Fairways have been providing residential and support services for people with learning disabilities since 1987, when our first residential home opened in Portrush. Through the years, we have seen significant change and improvement in Government Policy and Community Care legislation. Our service provision has developed in line with these changes, and we now operate on a number of sites, with our provision including Duncreggan Residential Home, the Cloonavin Green Project and the Woodford Park Project. From time to time, we also create and supervise more specialised placements in the community for individuals who have very specific support needs, which dictate that a more radical social work approach is required. This makes for a very unique service provision, with the ultimate user-led experience.
Currently, we operate in the Coleraine and Portrush area, working closely with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, as well as Muckamore Abbey Hospital. Our professional relationship with Muckamore has ultimately been forged to assist with the ongoing transition at the hospital, aimed at reducing the number of ‘long-stay’ patients. This involvement has been most exciting and has given us the scope to expand our service provision to include much more complex areas of need.
We currently provide residential and support services for approximately fifty service users, which commands the skill, knowledge and experience of a large staff team. Education, training and ongoing professional development is very much at the heart of our ethos. We acknowledge the intrinsic value of academic and practical qualification, gained both through study and experience, meaning that service users are supported by an informed staff team that have a strong value base and a professional approach.
The value and ability of our team of staff, coupled with the standard of accommodation that we provide, has given Fairways the opportunity to develop its professional reputation, through continual service development and quality improvement. Internal quality management procedures to BS EN ISO 9001:2000 standard have been invaluable in ensuring that our methods of intervention and service delivery are not only competent but also entirely transparent, giving service users, families and staff confidence in how we conduct our business.
Each member of the staff team will be encouraged and supported to expand his/her professional development, through experiential training and/or academic study.
